The Lopers Club

A Running and Walking Club

Welcome to the Lopers Club’s Los Angeles Marathon 2009 Training Clinic!

Today you are embarking on an incredible journey that will end on March 1, 2009 on the streets of Los Angles.  In 34 weeks you will have the ability to successfully complete the City of Los Angeles Marathon 2009 (26 miles, 385 yards).  Today we will be introducing you to the Lopers and to the Marathon Clinic.  So plan to be with us today as you take your first steps towards your first marathon or getting yourself in good physical condition.

We will also provide those of you who are not interested in training for a race but just want to regularly raise your level of health and fitness, our year-around Health and Maintenance Program.

As with any new fitness or exercise programs, we urge you to see your physician to determine your current health status and ability to participate in this training program.

You have in your hand a packet of information.  Please spend some time reviewing it.  Included in this packet is your marathon training schedule training schedule for several weeks.  There is additional information and recommendations included in this packet that should help you with your first month of training.

This is an important commitment you have made today.  We train in the heat.  We train in the cold.  We train in the rain (if it snows, you can take the day off).  Just as you have made a commitment to the program, the Lopers and your Pace Leaders-who are all veteran marathoners–have made a commitment to each and every one of you.  They will be here every week, come rain or shine, to train and assist you in reaching your goal:  completing a marathon or becoming a healthier person.  We make this promise so you might enjoy the exhilaration and thrill we have enjoyed with the Lopers.

Remember…our ultimate goal is to see you have a program in your life that will help you stay fit and healthy for years to come.  We are always available to answer your questions.

Have fun out there!  Congratulations…you’re a member of the pack!
